De Overtoom is a street in the western neighborhood of Amsterdam, between the Stadhouderskade and the Amstelveenseweg. From 1345 onwards, the new Overtoom was named the Heiligeweg, which contributed to the Miracle of Amsterdam. Heiligewegsevaart passed around the Heiligeweg, then renamed the Overtoomse Vaart. A section of Overtoom (near Vondelkerk) was briefly called Vondelkade. Before the end of the 19th century, the Overtoomseweg was situated in the town of Nieuwer-Amstel, which was later annexed to Amsterdam.
